Outstanding Service & Trade 2025
Northern Territory Local Business Award Winner for Outstanding Service & Trade 2025 – Cornells Transport Services
Growing up in the family transport business, I was no stranger to Trucks and Semi-Trailers (or being made to wash them). I was passionate about Trucks from an early age; I put myself through an apprenticeship with CUMMINS engines which only expanded my love for these incredible machines. If anyone asks, I am a Kenworth man at heart – always was and always will be! During my apprenticeship i was still working for my Dad in the transport business, and i remember that we could never agree on Line Haul work. I pushed for him to get into Line Haul, but he never wanted to. I saw an opportunity so i took a chance. In November 2016 I spent all my savings and bought my first truck – I couldn’t sleep for a week after that… But I knew that with my experience, work ethic and most importantly my passion, I could achieve anything if i put my mind to it. 9 years down the Track and my fleet of trucks are renowned around the country and especially up here in the NT. People always ask how i keep my equipment so clean – I tell them it’s a pride thing! The way you show up is the way you show yourself to the world stage!
We treat every customer like they are the one and only! We provide a service that goes and above, our office team are informative, patient and even quite funny but more importantly they have that personal touch that seems to be lacking these days. Customers are kept up to date every step of the way from booking in a job to the completion – we are honest, we are passionate, and we are grateful for our clients.
I believe that teamwork makes the dream work – our staff are our number one asset! We make sure we stay up to date with all requirements in relation to our accreditation. This means keeping all training up to date and available for all staff. I keep the team motivated by inspiring them and by encouraging them to have a passion in the company. I believe that everyone deserves a chance, all our team have their strengths and weaknesses, as do I! It’s about focusing on those strengths and helping every individual grow within the team.
Cornells Transport recognizes the environmental impact of heavy vehicle transport operations and is committed to minimising this impact through responsible environmental management and sustainable practices. We Endeavor to promote a workplace culture of environmental responsibility and continuous improvement. As President of the NT Road Transport Association, it is my responsibility to set an example and to lead the next generation of Transport Operators and Owners. I feel privileged to be in this role and to have the opportunity to work with my amazing team every day. Each day is another day to grow and learn in your business.
Through persistence and hard work, I managed to secure my biggest contract last year with an international company. I had to design a ramp hopper for loading aggregate onto a vessel at the port. This international company brought my design to fruition and believed in me to make their project a reality – A project that spanned over 6 months and put us up on the international stage as a transport company that loves a challenge and can secure professional relationships globally.
From the day i started this business I have supported a range of Charities; Variety Club NT supports the disabled and disadvantaged children of the NT. I supply a truck and trailer for their annual bash every year as well as a yard for free storage as well as other transport when needed locally.
I support the Darwin Lions Club in container movements and storage for their annual Beer Can Regatta. I have supplied trucks for the NT Careers Expo for the NT Govt.
Another charity close to my heart is Amber NT (formerly known as SIDS), I donate my trucks to them for charity rides – close to my heart because my nephew passed away at birth.
I want my business to grow in the future! I see it expanding in specialized areas but am very conscience about delivering a standard. I don’t want my business to expand at the detriment of quality and personalized customer service. I want to be known as the company to go to for the impossible moves!
My passion and dedication to the industry sets me apart from the rest. I appreciate hard work and am grateful for the business I am growing. I get inspired by jobs that are impossible or ‘too hard’ and strive to uphold a reputation of integrity and values.
